Welcome to Balsam Dental
We're glad you're considering us for your dental care. Whether it's your first-ever dental visit or you're switching from another practice, we make joining Balsam Dental as simple as possible.
Below you'll find everything you need to know about your first visit, insurance, appointments, and payment. If you have any questions we haven't answered, give us a call at (416) 691-8555 or send us a note using the form.
Dental History
If you've been seeing another dentist regularly, please contact them and request that your recent X-rays and dental records be forwarded to our office. This helps us understand your dental history so we can pick up where they left off. If you'd prefer, we can help arrange the transfer. Just give us a call and we'll take care of it for you.
First Visit
Your first visit at Balsam Dental is about getting to know you, understanding your dental history, and creating a plan for your ongoing care. We'll walk you through what to expect and answer any questions you have along the way.
Take a seat in our comfortable lounge and enjoy a complimentary coffee or tea while you wait.
Meet our team. We're happy to answer any questions, whether about the visit itself or the treatments we offer.
Relax knowing our practice is equipped with modern technology to make your visit comfortable and precise.
During your first visit, we'll walk through three key areas to make sure we have a clear picture of your oral health and what you'd like from your care.
A Review of Your Dental Care History
We'll talk through your past dental care, any treatments you've had, and any concerns you have about your teeth, gums, or smile today.
A Complete Oral Exam with X-Rays
We'll conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, including digital X-rays, to get a full picture of your current oral health.
Your Personalized Care Plan
Based on what we find, we'll put together a care plan that includes routine maintenance and any additional treatments we'd recommend. We'll walk you through it together, answer your questions, and let you decide what makes sense for you.
Every patient's situation is different. If there's something specific you'd like to discuss about your oral health, please tell us. We're here to listen.
MEDICATIONS AND HEALTH UPDATES
Changes to your overall health can affect your dental care. Please let us know about any medications you're taking, including over-the-counter medications and natural health products, and update us as anything changes. Bringing a current list to your first visit makes this easy.
INSURANCE
Balsam Dental works with all major dental insurance plans, and we're happy to submit claims to your provider electronically. Please note that we operate on a non-assignment basis, which means payment for your treatment is due at the time of your visit. Once we submit the claim on your behalf, your insurance provider will reimburse you directly.
For patients with government-assisted programs like the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), ODSP, HSO, or OW, please bring your valid coverage card to your appointment. We're glad to accept these programs. Any services not covered by your plan will be your responsibility, so if you have questions about what your specific plan covers, please give us a call before your visit and we can help you understand what to expect.
Regardless of what your insurance covers, maintaining good oral care day to day is one of the best investments you can make in your long-term health.
APPOINTMENTS AND PAYMENT
When you book with us, we set aside time specifically for you. If you need to reschedule or cancel, we ask for at least 48 hours' notice so we can offer that appointment to another patient. Appointments after 4:00 PM and on Saturdays are in high demand, so 48 hours' notice is especially appreciated for those slots. If three appointments are missed without prior notice, a cancellation fee will be applied. As a courtesy, we'll send you a reminder before your scheduled visit.
Payment for your treatment is due at the time of your visit. We accept debit and all major credit cards. Please note that we're unable to accept cash or personal cheques.
