INTRODUCTION
Role of Dental Crowns in Restoration of Your Smile
The most exciting breakthrough in advanced dentistry is the utilization of computer-assisted technology to manufacture porcelain-based dental crown services in Ontario. A CEREC crown can be completed in a single appointment, rather than the multiple appointments required with the techniques used in the past. The modern dentistry techniques also reduce the number of anesthetic injections needed. Dental crowns are a "cap" placed on a tooth that is broken, damaged, stained, decayed, or not shaped correctly by the root canal. Sometimes, crowns can also support the structure of a dental bridge, top off a tooth implant, or may also be utilized for specific cosmetic or aesthetic reasons.

CEREC Crown Placement Process
Prepare and Shape
1
The first step in preparing a tooth for a CEREC crown is to file and shape the tooth.
Digital Impression and Design
2
After that, an impression is taken with a camera digitally. Then the camera sends a 3-D optical image of the prepared tooth to your dentist's computer. The dentist then uses the computer's CAD/CAM technology for designing the crown, and its specifications are then sent to a milling machine.
Mill and Bond
3
The milling machine then carves the actual restoration out of a hard ceramic block by utilizing diamond-coated instruments. The crown is then placed in your mouth and checked for fit, occlusion, and appearance. If everything is acceptable, then the crown will be bonded to your tooth. All in a single appointment!
MATERIAL
Material of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are mainly manufactured from ceramic material. They are capable of expanding and contracting in response to temperature changes at a similar rate to enamel and dentin. Once your new crown is in place, you may experience mild sensitivity to hot or cold for several weeks. But this is a temporary feeling and subsides on its own. Your crown should feel natural and comfortable within your mouth. While deciding the type of dental crown material, keep in mind: the position of the tooth and its condition, the number of visible teeth you see when you smile, and the shade or colour of the adjacent teeth.

BENEFITS
Top Benefits of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can protect the weakened tooth by preventing it from any kind of bacteria, food particles, and acid. As the tooth crowns fully encase the teeth, these particles cannot reach the teeth and can't cause any further damage.
5 key benefits of dental crowns
• Helps protect a weak tooth to avoid breakage
• Protects a root canal-treated tooth from further breakage
• Prevents cracks from becoming more severe
• Repairs a significantly damaged or broken tooth
• Enhances the appearance of discoloured and misshapen teeth (smile makeover)

BENEFITS
What to expect from a dental crown.
Will my crown look like my other teeth?
Modern ceramic crowns are carefully shade-matched to your surrounding teeth. Most people can't tell the difference between a crown and a natural tooth, especially with CEREC crowns, which are custom-milled for a precise match. If you have concerns about appearance, especially for a front tooth, we can review shade options with you before the crown is made.
How is a same-day crown different from a traditional one?
Same-day CEREC crowns use the same high-quality ceramic materials as traditional lab-made crowns. The difference is in how they're made, not what they're made of. For most patients, CEREC crowns offer the same longevity and appearance as traditional crowns, with the added convenience of a single-visit fitting. For very complex cases, a traditional lab-made crown may still be the right choice.
What Is the Difference Between Dental Crowns and Caps?
There is no significant difference between dental caps and tooth crowns. A dental cap is the second term used for dental crowns. However, the word "dental crown" is more frequently used nowadays.
How Long Can the Dental Crowns Last?
On average, if you maintain good oral hygiene, the dental crowns can last up to 15 years or sometimes even more than 15 years.

Can I get a cavity under a crown?
Yes — the crown itself can't decay, but the natural tooth underneath still can, especially at the gumline where the crown meets your tooth. That's why brushing and flossing around the crown is just as important as with any other tooth. Regular check-ups let us catch any issues around the crown edge early.
What should I do if my crown falls off?
Don't panic — this happens occasionally and it's fixable. Save the crown, keep it clean, and call us as soon as possible. Avoid chewing on that side until we can get you in. In most cases we can re-cement the same crown, but if the underlying tooth has changed, a new one may be needed.
