INTRODUCTION

Smile with Porcelain Veneers Toronto

Veneers are strong, thin, tooth-shaped pieces of porcelain bonded to the front surface of your natural teeth with durable cement. They are used to restore decayed, chipped, or discoloured teeth and are also capable of closing gaps between teeth. Veneer services in the Toronto office frequently require local anesthetic and may take more than one appointment. A minimal amount of enamel is usually removed to make room for the thickness of the veneer. Dental veneers have a very natural look and are sometimes used for cosmetic purposes.

How Do Dental Veneers Services Work?

Veneers are strong, thin, tooth-shaped pieces of porcelain bonded to the front surface of your natural teeth with durable cement. They are used to restore decayed, chipped, or discoloured teeth and are also capable of closing gaps between teeth. Veneer services in the Toronto office frequently require local anesthetic and may take more than one appointment. The 2 Major Types of Dental Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

1

Porcelain veneers in Toronto are the most common ones. These veneers are custom-made, tooth-coloured, and versatile. Porcelain veneers can last up to 10 to 15 years, depending upon their quality and the type of care they receive. The porcelain veneers can resist stains better than any other type of veneer as they are composed of ceramic material. Moreover, porcelain veneers are minimally invasive compared to other alternatives and are biocompatible, so they do not negatively affect the gum and other soft tissues.

Composite Veneers

2

Composite veneers are prepared from a mixture of organic and inorganic materials called resins. Composite veneers are used as an alternative to porcelain veneers. However, composite veneers are not as durable as dental porcelain veneers and can also stain readily over time. The bonding material used in composite veneers is the same as tooth-coloured dental fillings. Composite veneers are conservative. If they chip, they are sculpted directly into the teeth. Composite veneers can prove to be affordable and usually last up to 5 to 7 years.

Steps Before Placement of Veneers

3

Matching the veneers with the natural shade of your teeth. Taking digital impressions of your teeth using our intraoral scanner, so there's no need for goopy putty. Preparing the tooth surface, which involves removing a very thin layer of enamel. Placing temporary veneers, if required, while your custom veneers are made.

AFTERCARE

Preventive Measures After the Implantation of Veneers

After receiving veneers, follow these preventive measures: In the first 24 hours, avoid chewing, rinsing, and spitting. Use a soft brush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Do regular flossing at home. Schedule dental examinations. Regular check-ups at Balsam Dental in The Beaches let us monitor your veneers and address any concerns early.

BENEFITS

Timeline, results, and durability.

How long does the veneer process take?

The veneer process usually takes two visits over two to three weeks. At your first visit we take digital impressions and prepare your teeth. At your second visit we bond the finished veneers in place. If you have temporary veneers between visits, you'll wear those in the meantime. The bonding appointment itself is straightforward and most patients leave the practice with their new smile the same day.

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

Porcelain veneers can last up to 10 to 15 years, depending on their quality and the type of care they receive. They can resist stains better than any other type of veneer as they are composed of ceramic material.

How Long Do Composite Veneers Last?

Composite veneers usually last up to 5 to 7 years. They are more affordable than porcelain veneers but not as durable and can stain readily over time. Composite veneers are conservative and if they chip, they can be sculpted directly into the teeth.

Are Veneers Reversible?

Traditional veneer placement involves removing a minimal amount of enamel to make room for the thickness of the veneer. Since this small amount of enamel doesn't grow back, traditional porcelain veneers are generally not considered reversible. Composite veneers may involve less enamel removal.

Will veneers look fake or too white?

Only if that's what you want. We work with you to choose a shade that looks natural for your face — bright and healthy without crossing into unnaturally white territory. Most patients want an improvement on their current smile, not a Hollywood look, and we design veneers to match. You'll see a preview before we commit to the final result.

Can I still drink coffee, wine, and tea with veneers?

Yes. Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant — much more so than natural enamel. You can enjoy your usual coffee, wine, tea, and other staining foods without worrying about discolouration. Composite veneers are slightly more prone to staining, so if you're a heavy coffee drinker, porcelain is usually the better choice.

What happens if a veneer chips or comes off?

Veneers are durable but not indestructible. If a veneer chips or debonds, save any pieces you can and call us. Composite veneers can often be repaired directly. Porcelain veneers usually need to be replaced. Avoid biting hard objects (ice, pen caps, fingernails) and if you grind your teeth at night, wear a night guard to protect them.

Do I need to replace all my teeth with veneers, or just a few?

You only need veneers on the teeth you want to change. Many patients get 4–8 veneers on their front teeth, since those are the ones that show when you smile. If you're only concerned about one or two teeth, a single veneer or two is a common approach. We'll walk through the options during your consultation.
